- PRADHAN MANTRI MUDRA YOJANA: Tamil Nadu topped the list in availing loans to women as per the provided data by the Ministry of Finance to Rajya Sabha. It was followed by West Bengal and Karnataka. According to the data produced by the Ministry of Finance, around 15 crore loans amounting to Rs 4.78 lakh crores were disbursed to women borrowers since the inception of Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana. The total number of loans provided under the MUDRA scheme; 70% of borrowers were women.
- RED NOTICE ISSUED AGAINST AMI MODI, THE WIFE OF NIRAV MODI: On August 25, 2020, the Interpol issued a red notice against Ami Modi, the wife of Nirav Modi. She is the prime suspect in the Rs 13,500 crore Punjab National Bank fraud case. A red notice acts as an international arrest warrant. Ami Modi had left India in 2018 before the investigating agencies began their investigation in the PNB scam.
- ICICI LOMBARD GENERAL INSURANCE COMPANY ANNOUNCES MERGER WITH BHARTI AXA’S NON-LIFE INSURANCE: On August 22, 2020, Bharti AXA’s non-life insurance business is set to merge with ICIC Lombard General Insurance. The deal would result in the emergence of the third-largest non-life insurer in India. The merger would result in an entity with a combined annual premium of Rs 16,447 crore and a Market Share of nearly 8.7 percent, ICICI Lombard said.
- CHINA SUCCESSFULLY LAUNCHED GAOFEN-9(05): China has successfully launched the 5th Earth observation satellite, Gaofen-9 (05), from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China. The satellite, sent into orbit by a Long March-2D carrier rocket, is an optical remote-sensing satellite with a resolution up to the sub-meter level.
- WOMEN’S BRITISH OPEN GOLF 2020: Sophia Popov of Germany won the women’s British on 23rd August 2020, It was German golfer’s first major championship and the prize money was $675,000.
- JAL JEEVAN MISSION: The Arunachal Government has decided to provide a 100% Tap water connection to all the households in the state by 2023 under the center’s Jal Jeena Mission.
- JAPAN’s OLYMPIC DOUBLE CHAMPION AYAKA TAKAHASHI ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT BY THE END OF THE MONTH: Olympic badminton champion of Japan Ayaka Takahashi will not defend her doubles crown with Misaki Matsutomo at next year’s Tokyo Games after announcing her retirement.

- SAUDI ARABIA’S STATE OIL COMPANY ARAMCO SUSPENDS $10-BILLION CHINA OIL REFINERY PROJECT: Saudi Arabia’s state oil company Aramco has suspended a deal to build a $10 billion refining and petrochemicals complex in China. Aramco decided to stop investing in the facility in China’s northeastern province of Liaoning due to uncertain market outlook.
